Selling tens of million cellphones, Realme looks like it enters the premium market

Jakarta

Initially present two years ago, Realme focus on selling affordable cellphones. Now they have dared to sell cell phones that cost tens of millions of rupiah.

Realme Vice President and Global Marketing President Xu Qi said that each product has a different position in each market. In Indonesia alone, the Realme C series is their best-selling cellphone, and so far it has received good reviews from users.

“Even though the Realme C series is affordable, this phone offers a unique experience,” said Qi when chatting online after the IFA 2020 event.

Even though its cheap cellphones have good sales, Realme is confident in releasing a premium flagship device. Not long ago they officially released the Realme X50 Pro 5G in Indonesia.

With a price of Rp. 11,999,000, Realme enters the premium flagship cellphone market in the country. But the funny thing is that Realme doesn’t admit this.

“We are not entering the high end market. Instead, we consistently deliver products with a leap forward from the most advanced technology in the industry, and deliver them at reasonable prices,” said Qi.

He exemplified the moment IFA 2020, his party introduced a 55 inch Smart TV that carries an ultra-wide color gamut screen, Realme Buds Air Pro and Watch S Pro. All three carry high-end configurations but are affordable in terms of price.

“We have implemented a high-end configuration on products with a friendlier price range, giving users more choices,” said Qi.

“Realme has always been committed to enabling young people around the world to buy smart products that are fast performing and have trend-setting designs at reasonable prices,” he continued.

COVID-19

Pandemic COVID-19 has had an impact on the global economy, Realme business is no exception. Even so they have made a number of efforts so that their business is not hit so hard.

There are a number of efforts that have been carried out. The first is to do flexible and diverse marketing. This step has been considered quite effective so far.

“While many of our competitors remain hesitant, Realme is turning to online product launches, thus keeping consumers updated on our new products. This is not our first attempt to go online, as Realme has pioneered to launch our products online in talk format. “The show was long before the pandemic. Apart from being online, we made launching fun, interesting, and trendy for young people, as well as attracting the masses,” said Qi.

Second, Realme spends a lot of time trying to figure out how to get products to customers as quickly and safely as possible in the face of previous logistical disruptions. Their ‘contactless delivery’ and ‘everyone is a Realme ambassador’ strategy has allowed them to keep their products popular.

“You can see many shop staff who are proactively promoting our products on their personal social media accounts and even making unboxing videos and reviews,” said Qi.

All the steps that Realme have taken have ended up bearing fruit. When many vendors have decreased, Realme is the opposite.

In the first quarter of 2020, their sales grew 157% YoY, making them one of only two brands to post positive growth globally.

In the second quarter, Realme was the only brand smartphone in a world that achieves double digit growth. Do not stop there, this Chinese vendor is the seventh top brand in terms of global smartphone shipments for four consecutive quarters.

“In the future, we will continue to leverage our strengths as a young brand and remain flexible to market changes in order to sustain growth,” concluded Qi.
