As stated in the protocol of organizer ASO, a new corona test will follow on the first day of rest in the Tour de France. Two test rounds had already been carried out for the Grand Départ in Nice.
Normally everyone would be tested today, but the Tour bubble (riders and staff from all teams) contains more than 650 members. Because of that extensive number, the test campaign was already started on Sunday.
However, the Tour organization will only communicate about the results on Tuesday morning. This has to do with the ‘false positives’.
In recent weeks, a few riders have tested positive, while it later turned out that this was not the case after the riders in question had already been removed from the race.
To avoid this, the organization wants to give the chance for a retest, news agency Belga learned.
The result of a test is known within two hours. Suppose there is a positive test for COVID-19, then a second test can take place, so that the rider in question could still start on Tuesday in the tenth stage.
