In total, there were 18 volunteers who received one formulation and 18 volunteers received the other formulation. The other 40 participants got both.
“Both vaccine formulations are safe and well tolerated,” write the investigators in a summary of their findings quoted from The Lancet.
Regarding side effects, some of the most common symptoms include pain at the injection site, hyperthermia or a rise in body temperature, headache, asthenia (feeling of physical fatigue and lack of energy), and muscle and joint pain.
“Most of the side effects were mild and no serious side effects were detected,” said the investigators. They say these side effects are similar to those of other adenovirus vaccines.
In addition, all participants also produced antibodies to the SARS-CoV-2 glycoprotein.
