The man was about to start his dinner when a fly buzzed around the room. According to local media the man, who would be in his eighties, then picked up an electric fly swatter to kill the insect.
Leaking gas bottle
However, there appeared to be a leaking gas cylinder in his kitchen. The electric fly swatter reacted with the gas in space and created an explosion.

That explosion destroyed the man’s kitchen. The roof of his house in the French hamlet of Parcoul-Chenaud was also damaged.
The man would have gotten away with a minor burn to his hand.
Fate of fly unknown
The fate of the fly is unknown. The man stays at a local campsite while his family repairs the house.
