The match had barely started when debutant Fati was knocked to the ground in the penalty area. A task that does not make Sergio Ramos nervous. The captain of Spain and Real Madrid kicked in goal via the fingertips of goalkeeper Piatov. Ukraine was able to start a catch-up race on the training field of Real Madrid after just 3 minutes.
The most important thing to know about Ukraine was that they played with three (old) acquaintances. Malinovsky (ex-Genk), Mychaylytsjenko (Anderlecht) and Yaremchuk (AA Ghent). Sobol, Makarenko and Plastoen remained on the bench. Spain dominated and more than one shot straight to Mychajlychenko’s De Gea did not come.
After half an hour, Olmo threw the ball in front of goal and there was Ramos again. The defender scored his 23rd goal for Spain with a beautiful header. The other star, Ansu Fati, decided the match before half-time. The 17-year-old dribbled past his defender and kicked wonderfully into the far corner (see video). He is immediately the youngest goalscorer for Spain in history.
The second half was a measure for nothing. Ukraine was especially worried about pandering. Malinovsky was clearly frustrated. He got yellow for a serious foul and could easily have received a second yellow card afterwards. Spain was not fooled. Substitute Ferran Torres recorded the final score by shooting in nicely: 4-0. Also for him his first goal for the national team. Yaremchuk missed a great chance of an honor saver in the extra time.
