In this exhibition, Ieva Caruka’s story is about a woman as a carrier of the Eastern European genetic code. Nowadays, the big role of a woman – to be a mother, a wife – is losing relevance. The heroines of the artist, like the fabulous bird Phoenix, shrink to ashes in their unfulfilled sexuality to be reborn in a new image, in new Goddesses. The artist expresses these feelings in the theme of dance, where sensuality overflows in the dialogue between women and men. Dance is also a symbol of fall and flight, which makes up life itself.

The exhibition will feature not only the works of Ieva Caruka made in the artist’s studio, but also a voluminous mural she will create especially for the exhibition in the center of Rothko.

“I write my big stories of the world with lines, color contrasts and collages. When emotions hit a high wave, I invented a game where I am a director and a sculptor. It is the black and white that helps to see in the world something important – what we do not see in the spotty bustle of everyday life, “says the artist Ieva Caruka herself about her works.

The exhibition will be opened in the program of events of the music and art festival “Daugavpils ReStart”. The exhibition is open to visitors from 11 September to 25 October at the Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Center.

According to the creators of the exhibition, Ieva Caruka is an artist and pedagogue, a member of the Latvian Artists’ Union, a member of the board of the association “Mārupe Creative Laboratory”. Studied at the Book Graphics Department of the Lviv (Ukraine) Printing Institute and graduated from the Graphics Department of the Latvian Academy of Arts.

Since 1988, she has participated in more than 87 art exhibitions in Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Poland, Switzerland, Azerbaijan, Germany, Albania, India, Belgium, Spain, the Netherlands, Bulgaria and Australia, 40 of which have been solo exhibitions of the artist. Participated in 16 international art plein airs and symposia.
