The Ministry of Justice and Security is currently seriously considering a request to scrap corona fines. That request was made by lawyer Frank van Ardenne on behalf of four ‘cake eaters’ from Schiedam and other clients.
Van Ardenne told the ANP on Saturday that he has received a message from the ministry that his request to dismiss or review fines on the basis of a general pardon has been dealt with. The lawyer suspects that the request will be handled faster than normal given the recent fuss surrounding the wedding of Minister Ferd Grapperhaus. “Anyone struggling with this needs clarity,” says Van Ardenne.
Cake eaters
The fine for the cake eaters concerned a couple in Schiedam who received a visit from their parents in May this year. The latter stood on their doorstep with cake. They decided to eat them outside, because one of the parents could not climb stairs. They did keep a distance of one and a half meters from each other. Enforcers then fined them nearly 400 euros per person for “gathering in the open air”.
