Smart-tv’s met Apple TV-app

Have you bought a smart TV in the past two years? Then your screen may be able to work with Apple’s TV app. This application is home to, among other things Apple TV Plus, the iPhone maker’s Netflix competitor. All televisions with AirPlay 2 support can also stream content (such as videos and music) via the TV app.

In short: Apple’s TV app is a great addition to your smart TV. Unfortunately, not all smart TVs can use the app. In this overview, we therefore explain which televisions do support the Apple TV app, or will receive in the near future.

No TV app for older LG TVs

LG previously announced that TVs from 2018 also received support for the Apple TV app. However, the manufacturer backed down in the summer of 2020. Only LG TVs from 2019 will receive support.

You can do this with the Apple TV app

You can use the TV app in the Netherlands to rent or buy films via Apple, and watch them immediately on your smart TV. Apple TV Plus is also present in the app, the Netflix competitor that offers various exclusive films and series.

Abroad it is also possible to subscribe to pay channels with the TV app. This is not (yet) possible in the Netherlands. With AirPlay 2 you can stream movies, music and photos from your iOS device to your TV.
