A new British study shows that pregnant women with corona will only notice later. At first they have no symptoms and later possibly a more serious disease course with admission to intensive care. It is not known whether Dutch hospitals have noticed the same. Algemeen Dagblad reports this.

While the numbers are nothing to worry about, the researchers do see significant differences between pregnant and non-pregnant women of the same age. About 4 percent of pregnant women with corona end up in intensive care. That percentage is considerably lower among non-pregnant women of the same age.
Hyperactive immune system
The researchers also find it not surprising that pregnant women show a more serious clinical picture. The immune systems of women carrying a baby can be hyperactive to protect the unborn baby. Therefore, pregnant women have an increased risk of infections.
Scientists are still in the dark about the consequences of corona on the unborn child.
