The Williams family will leave their cherished F-1 team completely this weekend

The Williams family will completely abandon the First Formula One (F-1) World Championship team Williams, founded in 1977 by Frank Williams.

Since 2013, the team has been led by Frank Williams’ daughter Claire, who announced on Thursday that she will resign after the upcoming Italian Grand Prix this weekend.

“I was hoping to preserve Williams’ family legacy for future generations, but due to a number of circumstances I was forced to sell the team. The team and our people have always been first in my family, so it was an absolutely right decision,” said Williams.

The Williams team triumphed nine times in the Constructors’ Cup and won seven individual championship titles, dominating much of the 1980s and 1990s.

True, it won its last victory in 2012, when the Spanish Grand Prix was first finished by Pastor Maldonado, but in recent years it is among the weakest F-1 teams. Last year’s financial losses led to the search for new investors, after which the team management will be changed.

Last month, the team was sold to U.S. private investment firm Dorilton, which promised to keep the unit’s Williams name.
