‘After the first few days’: PSV Left-Back Competing with Tyrell Malacia Says Best Thing About the Man Utd Loanee
Tyrell Malacia has made an instant impact at PSV Eindhoven, the Dutch football club where he is currently on loan from Manchester United. The 25-year-old left-back joined PSV during the January transfer window, following United’s signing of Patrick Dorgu from Lecce. Ruben Amorim, the manager at the time, facilitated the loan move to ensure Malacia got more game time.
Malacia made his debut for PSV in a 1-1 draw against Willem II last weekend. His performance was praised by his teammates, highlighting his immediate integration into the squad. The match saw Malacia gain valuable minutes on the pitch, solidifying his role as a key player for the Dutch side.
PSV’s need for Malacia became evident after Matteo Dams transferred to Al-Hilal and Sergino Dest continued his recovery from a cruciate ligament injury. The Manchester United loanee put in a good performance on his debut but was left out of Peter Bosz’s starting lineup for the Champions League playoffs against Juventus. Mauro Junior was named in his place.
Following PSV’s 2-1 defeat against Juventus, Mauro Junior, who played the full 90 minutes, was asked about the impact of Malacia’s arrival. “That is a good question,” the Brazilian told Voetbalprimeur. “But we need two left backs, the coach has indicated that. I realy like Malacia after the first few days. We need players like him, with his mentality, abilities, and qualities. It’s always nice to compete with a good player. We have to push each other, and Bosz chooses who will play.”
Mauro Junior also mentioned his versatility, stating, “I can also play as a right-back or in midfield. The coach sees what is best for the team.”
PSV will be rubbing their hands together at the prospect of signing Malacia permanently in the summer for just £8.3 million. Even though Malacia may not be at the level required to compete in the Premier League, he certainly performs to a high standard in the Dutch top flight. His efforts in a PSV shirt, even though still early days, look promising, and his arrival, by his teammate’s own admission, is a welcome addition.
