Early morning Shooting at Clemenceau Metro Station Disrupts Brussels Transit
In the early hours of the morning, chaos erupted at the Clemenceau metro station in Brussels when shots were fired, sending shockwaves through the city. According to STIB spokesperson Guy Sablon, the incident occurred at 6:15 am, wiht camera footage confirming that the shots were fired into the air and not aimed at any individuals. Thankfully,no injuries were reported.
The perpetrators fled the scene via the metro tunnels, heading towards the Zuidstation. This prompted immediate closures of metro lines 2 and 6 between throne and West Station,as well as tram lines 4 and 10 between Lemonnier and Berkendaal. Earlier in the morning, a smaller perimeter had been established, with tunnels closed between Ossegem and Hallepoort.
“We are looking for several suspects,” confirmed Sarah Frederickx, spokeswoman for the Zuid police zone.She described the group as small, possibly consisting of two or three individuals. “They took the flight to the South station via Clemenceau station,” she added.The Zuid police zone has enlisted the help of the federal railway police to track down the suspects. While the incident is not believed to be terrorism-related, authorities suspect it may be linked to the drug environment.
