Samsung has already detailed the February 2025 security patch, even as many of its Galaxy devices are yet to receive the January 2025 security update. The company recently introduced its mid-range Galaxy A55, but the focus has swiftly shifted to the upcoming security enhancements. Samsung’s latest flagship models, including the Galaxy S24 series and the upcoming Galaxy S25,are expected to be the first to receive the new patch. The Galaxy S25 is likely to ship with the January 2025 patch pre-installed, while the Galaxy S24 series will be among the first to get the February 2025 update.
In a recent blog post, Samsung outlined the specifics of the February 2025 security patch, which includes dozens of fixes for vulnerabilities. Google has contributed to most of thes corrections, addressing up to 36 Android vulnerabilities. Of these, 35 are labeled as “high” severity, while only one is marked as ”critical”.Additionally, some fixes are unrelated to Galaxy devices, focusing instead on broader Android security issues.
Samsung has also addressed four vulnerabilities unique to its hardware and software. These vulnerabilities could have allowed local attacks through memory corruption and unauthorized reading/writing outside the allocated memory. Malicious actors could have exploited these flaws to enable ADB and disable Samsung Find, possibly compromising user security. To prevent misuse, Samsung has refrained from detailing how these vulnerabilities could be exploited, ensuring that attackers remain in the dark until the patch is widely distributed.
The rollout of the February 2025 security patch is expected to begin imminently, with updates likely to reach Galaxy devices in the coming days or even hours. Meanwhile, the highly anticipated One UI 7, based on Android 15, is slated for release in late February or early March, starting with the Galaxy S24 series.
