Anthony mackie, the actor who brought Falcon Sam Wilson to life in the Avengers series, is stepping into a groundbreaking role as the first Black Captain America in Captain America: Brave New World. the film, directed by Julius Onah, promises to deliver a fresh narrative adn realistic action, setting it apart from its predecessors.In a recent interview with Korean media, Mackie reflected on his journey, stating, “I couldn’t imagine it to be a new Captain America. I couldn’t dream of being able to go to a high position as a young actor.” he emphasized that his portrayal of Sam Wilson is not merely an inheritance of Steve Rogers’ legacy but a distinct journey. “it’s not a burden. sam Wilson and Steve Rogers are different people and go to another journey,” Mackie explained.
The film, set to release on February 12, delves into a conspiracy to control the world, reuniting Sam Wilson with Thaddeus Ross, now the President. Mackie shared a heartfelt moment when he received the script in front of Chris Evans, who played the original Captain America. “Chris Evans hugged me, saying, ‘You’re really good,'” Mackie recalled.
Director Julius Onah, known for The Cloverfield Paradox and Luce, brings a unique vision to the film. A fan of Korean cinema, Onah paid homage to Kim Ji-woon’s A Bittersweet Life, incorporating its influence into the movie’s action sequences. “There is a brick god, and it is indeed also the homage of A Bittersweet Life,” Onah revealed.
One of the key differences in this iteration of captain America is the absence of super serum. “Captain America without serum uses surrounding objects and improves everything around,” Onah explained.Mackie echoed this sentiment, highlighting Sam Wilson’s humanity. ”Sam has no superhuman power, but it has a warm heart with humanity. The theme that everyone has a good heart is the most important thing in the film,” he said.
The film also introduces new features in Sam wilson’s suit,designed to surpass other superheroes. “A new feature that surpasses other superheroes is installed in a suit,” Mackie teased.
