As Los Angeles continues its recovery from the devastating January fires, city officials are calling on visitors to play a pivotal role in the city’s revival. Adam Burke, board president and CEO of the Los Angeles Tourism and Convention Board, emphasized that tourism can serve as a “lifeline” for local businesses and workers during this challenging time.
With over 540,000 residents employed in the tourism industry and more than 1,000 businesses dependent on travelers, the economic impact of tourism is undeniable. Burke assured potential visitors that the city’s “world-class attractions and tourism-related businesses” remain fully operational, despite the recent devastation.
“Our hearts are with all Angelenos who have suffered loss during this incredibly challenging time, and we are grateful beyond words to the first responders and all who have provided aid to our community from across the country and around the world,” Burke said in a statement shared on discoverlosangeles.com. He added that Los Angeles will continue to welcome visitors with the “warmth, creativity, and vibrancy that make LA so unique.”
Burke highlighted the critical role tourism plays in the city’s recovery, stating, “In moments like these, tourism does more than drive our economy — it becomes a lifeline in supporting our community’s recovery.”
To bolster these efforts, the L.A. tourism and Convention Board recently launched its bi-annual Dine LA campaign, inviting locals and visitors to dine at more than 420 participating restaurants. The initiative also supports fire relief efforts, with the board pledging to donate $5 to the American Red Cross for each reservation made, up to $50,000. The Banc of California has matched these contributions, potentially doubling the total donation to $100,000.
The campaign, which is set to conclude this Friday, underscores the city’s resilience and commitment to recovery. “We’re immeasurably grateful to all those who continue to choose LA as one of the world’s premier travel destinations,” Burke said. “Our tourism partners are dedicated to providing a safe and welcoming experience for all, whether you’re a local enjoying a staycation or a guest from anywhere around the globe.”
