Djevencio van der Kust Joins Beerschot on Loan for the Remainder of the Season
In a surprising mid-season move, Sparta Rotterdam has announced that Djevencio van der Kust will spend the rest of the season on loan at Beerschot, a Belgian club managed by former football star Dirk Kuyt. The decision,confirmed on Sparta’s official website,aims to provide the 23-year-old wing defender with more playing time and opportunities for growth.
Van der Kust, who joined Sparta Rotterdam in 2023 from FC Utrecht, quickly established himself as a key player. However, this season, his role diminished following the arrival of Patrick van Aanholt. Technical director Gerard Nijkamp explained the rationale behind the loan move: “When we took over Djevencio in 2023 from FC Utrecht, he quickly became a basic player at sparta. This season,the situation of Djevencio,partly due to the arrival of Patrick van Aanholt,changed.”
Nijkamp emphasized that the loan to Beerschot offers a promising solution. “That is why we have started looking for a solution in recent weeks and Beerschot offered a good outcome. In Belgium,Djevencio can make more minutes in the coming six months and thus continue to grow as a player,after which he will report to Rotterdam again after the season.”
This season, Van der Kust has made 13 appearances in the Eredivisie for Sparta Rotterdam, bringing his total appearances for the club to 48. The loan agreement does not include an option to buy, ensuring his return to Rotterdam after the season concludes.
