Burgas Celebrates 147 Years of Liberation with Wreaths,Exhibitions,and Folk Concerts
on February 6,1878,the city of Burgas witnessed a historic moment as its citizens joyfully welcomed Russian warriors from the detachment of Colonel Lermontov. This marked the end of centuries of foreign oppression and the begining of a new era of freedom. Fast forward to 2025, and Burgas is set to commemorate the 147th anniversary of its liberation with a series of events that honor its rich history and cultural heritage.
A Day of Remembrance and Celebration
the celebrations will kick off at 11:00 AM at Atanas sirekov square with the ritual of raising the national flag of Bulgaria, alongside the flags of the European Union and the Municipality of Burgas. This will be followed by a thanksgiving ceremony for the prosperity of free Burgas.
At 11:30 AM, the focus shifts to the monument to those killed in the Russo-Turkish Liberation War. Here, a funeral prayer and a solemn ritual of giving military honors will take place, accompanied by the laying of wreaths and flowers. This poignant moment serves as a tribute to the sacrifices made during the Russian-Turkish Liberation War of 1877/78.
The commemorative activities will continue with wreath-laying ceremonies at the memorial plate of General Lermontov (15 Lermontov Str.) and the Monument to Russian Lazareth in Primorski Park.
A Journey Thru History
At 12:00 PM, the Regional Museum will host the official opening of a special historical exposition titled “90 years in 90 photos. Freedom Monument. Road in time.” This guest exhibition, curated by the Shipka-Buzludzha National Park Museum, will be inaugurated by Dr. Chavdar Angelov, the museum’s director.The day’s festivities will culminate at 12:30 PM with a vibrant folk concert by the FTA “Nikola Ginov” at Atanas Sirekov Square.This performance promises to bring the community together in a celebration of freedom and cultural pride.
