Andy Fox Named Manager of Pittsburgh Pirates’ Double-A Affiliate for 2025 Season
Former Boston Red Sox frist base coach Andy Fox has been appointed as the new manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates’ Double-A affiliate,the Altoona Curve,for the 2025 baseball season. the Pirates made the declaration on Friday, marking a significant step in fox’s coaching career.Fox, a two-time World Series champion, brings a wealth of experience to the role. He previously served as the Red Sox’s infield coordinator under manager Alex Cora during the 2022 and 2023 seasons before stepping into the first base coach position in 2024. His transition to the Pirates organization comes after robby Hammock,the previous Altoona manager,left to join the San Diego Padres staff.
“Andy Fox’s extensive background in both playing and coaching makes him an ideal fit for this role,” said a Pirates spokesperson. Fox’s nine-year MLB career included stints with the New York Yankees, Arizona Diamondbacks, Florida Marlins, Montreal Expos, and Texas Rangers, giving him a deep understanding of the game at all levels.
The Altoona curve will see a refreshed coaching staff under Fox’s leadership. Bench coach Gary green is the onyl holdover from the previous season, while pitching coach Matt Ford joins for his 12th year as an instructor in the pirates’ minor league system. Hitting coaches Scott Seabol and Casey Harms, who previously worked at lower levels of the Pirates’ minor league system, will also be part of Fox’s team.
Meanwhile, the Red Sox have finalized their coaching staff for the 2025 season, retaining most of Cora’s 2024 staff. José Flores has been named the new first base coach, filling the vacancy left by fox’s departure.
fox’s appointment underscores the Pirates’ commitment to developing talent within their minor league system. As the 16th manager in Altoona Curve history, he will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the organization.
