in January 2024, Chilean downhill mountain biking star Pedro Ferreira faced a major setback when an elbow injury during a competition in Colombia threatened his participation in the Red Bull Valparaíso Cerro Abajo. Despite rigorous medical treatment and recovery,Ferreira couldn’t perform at his peak,missing the podium.Now,a year later,the Curacaví native is back with a vengeance,eyeing his third title at Latin America’s most prestigious urban downhill race.
“I go with the expectation of winning the competition for the third time. I have technical conditions, experience, and strategy, especially in the final descent,” Ferreira confidently stated. Known as one of the public’s favorites, Ferreira’s track record speaks volumes. Since 2019, he has been a dominant force in the event, earning the title of ‘King of the port’ twice.
The Road to Dominance
ferreira’s journey to greatness began in 2019 when he clinched his first title in Valparaíso, edging out compatriot Felipe agurto by a mere two-tenths of a second. This victory cemented his place among Chilean legends like Sebastián Vásquez,Antonio Leiva (a four-time winner),and Mauricio Acuña.
After a three-year hiatus due to the global health crisis, the Red Bull Valparaíso Cerro Abajo returned in 2022, reigniting the city’s streets with adrenaline and color. That year, Ferreira faced off against Czech rider Tomáš Slavík, a two-time champion (2017, 2018). A dramatic fall by Slavík and a flawless descent by Ferreira secured the Chilean his second title.
Though,2023 was a stark contrast. A severe training crash just hours before the pedaleadas de los Clasificados forced Ferreira to withdraw, leaving him with a bitter taste of unfinished buisness.
The 2025 Comeback
