Schaudzer passed away “after a short serious illness” on Wednesday afternoon in a Cologne hospital, as confirmed by Jürgen Ross from the acting agency Ross to the german Press Agency (dpa).

He rose to fame with the ARD program “budents, Pech & Pannen”, which showcased humorous private videos of mishaps and became a cultural phenomenon in the mid-1980s. His wife, Gundel, passed away in 2021, leaving behind a 53-year marriage that Schaudzer described as deeply fulfilling. “We were married for 53 years, had a fulfilling life, and were happy until the last day,” he said. “Gundel was and remains the great love of my life.”
