The Samal Island-Davao City Connector Project, a P23.52-billion infrastructure initiative, is steadily progressing and remains on track for its targeted completion by September 2028. According to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH),the project has achieved nearly 12% completion, marking a significant milestone in its development.
This 4.76-kilometer connector, featuring a four-lane extradosed bridge spanning 4.01 kilometers, is set to revolutionize transportation between Davao City and Samal Island. Funded through Chinese official development assistance, the project is being executed by China Road and Bridges Corp., with Pertconsult international serving as the consultant.
Environmental sustainability remains a key focus. “Environmental precautions are also a priority to mitigate any adverse impacts on the surrounding areas, with careful handling of equipment and materials,” the DPWH emphasized.
Land acquisition, a critical component of the project, is currently at 71% completion. The remaining lots are being processed, with expropriation efforts underway to ensure the project stays on schedule.
Public Works Undersecretary Emil K. Sadain highlighted the project’s significance, stating, “Once completed by 2028, the bridge is expected to significantly improve access to Davao City and Samal Island, driving growth in tourism and economic activity across the region.”
