James Rodríguez Denies Junior de Barranquilla Rumors, Focuses on León Club Success
In a recent interview with Fox Sports Mexico, Colombian football star James Rodríguez put an end to the swirling rumors about his potential move to Junior de Barranquilla. the midfielder, who recently joined club León in Mexico, clarified that a transfer to the Colombian club was never close to happening.
“No, no, no (going to Junior), from the beginning everyone knew it was challenging,” Rodríguez stated emphatically. He added, “We have spoken, but from the beginning they knew it was hard. I think the noise was more, that they have done it, but it was hard for different things.”
The speculation began when Alejandro Char, the mayor of Barranquilla, hinted at the possibility of the most expensive signing in Colombian football history. The rumors gained traction after Fuad char, the majority shareholder of Junior, traveled to Medellín to meet with Rodríguez. However, the negotiations fell thru, and the player ultimately signed with Club León for $5.5 million—double what Junior had offered.
Rodríguez, who recently ended his contract with Rayo Vallecano, expressed his happiness with his new team in Mexico. “That is the idea, to be able to compete well.I understand that they have won three. They now have their crown and we will try to take them off. You have to do things well, go to match,” he said, referring to Club América, the current champions of the MX League.
the Colombian star also acknowledged the challenges of maintaining competitive regularity in recent years but remains optimistic about his future. “It is normal not to give one hundred percent,” he said, reflecting on his nearly 14-year career representing the Colombia national team.
