Anders Vistesen, a Danish member of the European Parliament, made a statement to US President Donald Trump on Tuesday, telling him that Greenland is not for sale.
The Danish member of parliament from the far-right nationalist Danish People’s Party spoke abusively about the new US president during a speech in Strasbourg.
Trump before taking office has repeatedly shared plans for a possible US expansion into Greenland, and has threatened to impose heavy tariffs to force Copenhagen. The debate drew praise from Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pennsylvania, who likened such a move to the Louisiana Purchase.
However, Vistesen said during a meeting of the European Parliament that buying Greenland was not an option.

Vistesen shared video of the comment via X and included a response from European Parliament vice-president Nicolae Stefanouta, who reprimanded him for the foul language.
“If the translation was correct, the term you used is not allowed in this body and there will be consequences for the language you used,” he said. “It is not acceptable to hear insults in this house of democracy.”
