Tunisia recently launched the 10th edition of the Carthage Music Days Festival with a captivating performance by the Spanish artist La José, marking the return of this biennial event after it’s cancellation last year due to the events in Palestine. The festival, which runs until January 24, features 29 performances from 15 countries, showcasing a rich tapestry of musical genres and cultural diversity.
The opening act, La José, known for her unique blend of flamenco, folk, and soul-funk, was accompanied by her Italian band, Ars Nova Napoli. Her music, deeply rooted in Andalusian heritage, serves as a cultural bridge between Tunisia and Spain. This year’s festival, themed “Zaid in Sense,” aims to celebrate global artistry while reflecting support for the palestinian cause through its programming.
Festival Director dursaf Al-Hamdani emphasized the event’s commitment to diversity, stating, “This session is distinguished by the diversity of programming between rock, rap, and electronic music.” She added that the festival serves as a vital platform for young artists, offering a stage for creativity and cultural exchange.
The lineup includes performances from Tunisia, Iraq, Sweden, Cape Verde, Palestine, Jordan, Egypt, Algeria, and Morocco. Highlights include the Si Al-Mahf show (Tunisia), the Autostrad Band (Jordan), the Big Sam show (Palestine), and the Kasba Electric show (Algeria).
The Carthage Music Days festival, organized under the supervision of Tunisia’s Ministry of Culture, was established in 2010, replacing the Tunisian Song Festival. It continues to uphold its mission of fostering artistic innovation and cultural dialog without the constraints of competition.
