Roma – Sinner’s opponent in the third round of the Australian Open is the American Marcos Giron, currently b. 46 Atpwho at 31 is experiencing the best moment of his career (it rose to No. 37 last August, ndr). The time of the match has been established and will begin at 9am Italian time. Not particularly tall (180 cm), very solid from the bottom, Giron has already equaled the best result in the Slam trials in Melbourne: third round as had already happened to him at Roland Garros 2021 and 2023. On his debut he came from behind (2 -6, 7-5, 6-1, 7-5) the German Hanfmann while in the second round he beat in 5 hard-fought sets (7-5, 3-6, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4) the Argentine Martin Etcheverry, who had eliminated Cobolli.

He has won only one ATP title, last year in Newport
Able to adapt best to all surfaces, the tennis player from Thousand Oaks, coached by the former French player (he was n. 360 in 2015) Maxime Tabatruong, has won only one ATP tournament in his career, just last year: the 250 of Newport, on American grass, where he beat his compatriot Alex Michelsen 6-7 (4/7), 6-3, 7-5. However, he surrendered in the final against two other Americans: to Brandon Nakashima in San Diego in 2022 and to Tommy Paul last February in Dallas. In his palmares there are also two Challenger titles won in his homeland but now dated (2019): the first in Orlando, the second in Houston.

He lost the only precedent with Sinner
Sinner and Giron have already crossed paths once. It happened in the first round of the Masters 1000 in Shanghai, in October 2023. The South Tyrolean won 7-6 (9/7), 6-2 after recovering from 1-4 in the first set and canceling 4 set-points (including 3 in a row from 3-6) in the tie-break.
