Roma – The last time Angela Carini he had crossed a finish line, it was last March. In Busto Arsizio, beating the Cape Verdean Ivanusa Moreira, she had won the pass to the Paris Olympics. He had cried for his father, who died while he was in the ring at the Tokyo Games, so he began to dream of being able to dedicate a medal to him. But then everything went wrong, starting with the highly controversial match abandoned after a couple of blows suffered against him Imane Khelifthe Algerian boxer accused of being a man. The time of the ring seemed to be over and the time of endless words, accusations and difficult relationships with her teammates had begun, as reiterated in a recent interview with Repubblica.
Angela Carini, the interview: “I don’t deny anything about Khelif, but the other Italians betrayed me”
by Luigi Panella
In Seregno the Fiamme Oro boxer gave the sensation of looking for a turning point. She went to win the Italian title but above all to rebuild herself both mentally and physically. Mentally, after the final clearly won on points with her Fiamme Oro colleague Daniela Golino, she seemed relaxed: “This is my eighth title and I won them in five different categories. I’m proud of myself, tonight was my revenge, I won once again.”
The dedication to the father and the boys of Caivano
A journey that had a precise starting point: “The boys from Caivano to whom I teach boxing in the sports center named after Pino Daniele have looked me in the eyes and have always said to me ‘Teacher, we believe in you’ – he declared -. They gave me strength, it was time to do things in the ring again and I think I responded great. As well as for my boys, the victory is also for my father, who is watching me from above.” From a technical point of view, the choice to drop from 66 to 63 kg seemed to make sense. Carini moved easily in the ring, showing good agility and above all wasting few shots.
