Jan Holterman, representing the company, explained the initial steps: “There are various parts of asbestos that we have to remove in advance, plus an old vinyl floor in which asbestos has been incorporated into the glue.” Construction fences have already been erected around the building, and shrubs and trees are being cleared to pave the way for the demolition.
The official demolition will commence on Monday, January 27, with councilor Albert-Jan Jakobs giving the symbolic go-ahead. Holterman estimates the process will take six to seven weeks. To minimize disruption, the team will use an access route via the parking lot behind the building as a supply and discharge route.”This will limit inconvenience to the neighborhood as much as possible and prevent traffic problems on the Statenweg,” Holterman added.
The outdated community center, previously known as De Marke and De Cluft, has been deemed unfit for continued use. Rising energy costs and the building’s failure to meet current requirements have necessitated its demolition.
