Winter Tightens Its Grip: Snowfall and Strong Winds Dominate Southern Bulgaria
As winter deepens, the southern half of bulgaria braces for a challenging meteorological situation. According to BNT, snowfalls are set to continue, with more significant accumulations expected in the rilo-Rhodope region, Strandja, and Sakar.Meanwhile, the Pre-Balkans will experience lighter snowfall.
Temperatures are expected to remain frigid, with maximums ranging between -1°C and 6°C. In Sofia, the mercury will hover around -1°C during the day, dropping to a chilly -4°C at night. The danube plain, however, will remain dry, with no precipitation forecasted.
The wind, predominantly from the northeast, will be moderate but temporarily strong in the eastern regions. In the mountains, conditions will be particularly harsh. Cloudy and foggy weather will prevail, accompanied by snowfall, especially in the rilo-Rhodope region, Strandzhda, and Sakar.
A strong northeasterly to east-southeasterly wind will sweep along the mountain ridges, creating blizzards and forming snowdrifts along the passes. This will make travel treacherous and possibly hazardous.
A Glimpse of Relief Ahead
By Tuesday and Wednesday, the wind is expected to weaken, though the cold will persist. Precipitation will cease almost everywhere by Tuesday night, with clouds breaking and decreasing. However, the south-eastern regions and the Rhodopes may still see vrey light snowfall.
The silver lining? Sunny weather is forecasted to dominate over the next three days, offering a brief respite from the wintry onslaught. Daylight hours will also begin to increase, signaling the slow but steady approach of spring.
