“As in any filming, there are many surprises, many unknowns, because you never know what will happen. Cinema is an emotional process,” bezmers shared.
The lead role is played by Intar Busulis, a musician who had to undergo rigorous rehearsals to prepare for his part. “Intar is a fighter and invested 200% in the process,” Bezmers revealed. “In the first round of casting, we knew he was the one.”
Joining Busulis are Raivi Vidzi and Katrīna Vasilevska, both non-professional actors chosen for their unique personalities and suitability for the series. Wilhelm Karlsson, who plays the character Oskar Duša, was another standout addition.
“Many young actors tried their hand at us, but they failed, not because they acted badly, but because they ‘didn’t fit’ for this type of series,” Bezmers explained.

For Bezmers, Templis marks a significant milestone in his career. Unlike his previous projects, such as She Lies Better and Unloved, where he joined mid-production, Templis allowed him to be involved from the ground up.
“This is the first project in which I have been fully involved from start to finish,” he said. “Thank god that television stations today have understood that Latvian viewers demand domestic cinema, local production, so television stations invest money in Latvian series.”
The director emphasized the importance of continuous growth in the industry. “any director, cinematographer, actor, and other cinema people can grow only by filming. the more series there are for Latvia, the more professional and competitive we will be.”

Therefore, it is tough to compete, but if you do your work professionally, honestly, and with love, the result will not be missed.”
The series’ creator, Artūrs Dīcis, attributes its success to the collaborative spirit of the team. “Once again, I want to say a huge thank you to the entire team that participated in the creation of the series, because it is a great collaboration.Proud of you!” he shared. Dīcis, who wrote the script, found inspiration from life and his circle of friends. “To write a script, I find inspiration in my head, as well as from life and a group of friends. If something is missing, then I go to talk with someone, such as, with Raivi Vidzis, who was actually the first person behind the idea of the series. He was the one who said: ‘You should make a series in the gym, that everything takes place in the gym!'”
The production of templis was a testament to resourcefulness and dedication. ”We make movies for super little money. Of course, those who watch HBO series compare them,” Dīcis admitted. However, the series’ biggest revelation came from Intars Busulis, a non-professional actor who delivered a standout performance. “I wasn’t on the set myself, but already at the first reading, when I went and told what and how, then, for example, Intars Busulis surprised me and in a good way, as it’s one thing to work with actors, the other is to work with non-professional actors,” Dīcis explained.
Busulis’ commitment to the role was remarkable. “You need to jump in, not measure seven times and only then cut. Busulis really did, and that’s admirable, because he had a lot of text, but he hung on and didn’t give up,” Dīcis added. The series also allowed for improvisation, which contributed to its authentic style. “To achieve the style of the series,freedom was given to improvise. That’s why I’m happy for the team and what they’ve done.”
