Ukraine: Dozens of Russian drones shot down – 4 Russian airports reopen –

The conflicts between Ukraine and Russia continue with the same intensity in the first days of the new year.

Specifically, the Ukrainian air defense shot down 61 of the 103 unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) launched by Russia in a night attack, as the Air Force announced today.

According to the same announcement, 42 other drones were lost, in a reference to the use of electronic warfare by Kiev. There were no immediate reports of significant damage or casualties.

On the Russian side, the airports of Nizhnekamsk, Izhevsk, Kazan and Perm temporarily suspended flight arrivals and departures from 10:05 am (local time, 0915 Greece time) today in order to safely conduct civilian flights such as announced the Russian civil aviation service Rosaviatsia.

A little while later, however, it was announced that the airports had been restored.

The agency did not specify why there was a disruption in flight arrivals and departures, but in the past Russian airports have been closed when there is a risk of Ukrainian drone strikes in the area.
