KPN TV+ Box update Fixes Slow Startup, Crashes
Frustration for KPN customers in the Netherlands experiencing slow startup times and frequent crashes wiht their TV+ box is finally easing. A new software update is rolling out, promising a resolution to these persistent issues that have plagued users for several weeks.
Reports of sluggish performance and unexpected shutdowns began surfacing in mid-December, following a previous software update. Users described the KPN logo freezing on screen for extended periods, rendering their set-top boxes unusable. While KPN initially suggested workarounds like restarting the device or pressing a button during prolonged logo displays, a more permanent solution is now available.
Update Rollout Begins
KPN announced the release of a new update, launcher version 1.171.4, designed to address these problems. The company stated, “Until you have this update: continue to use the workaround of pressing a button if the logo remains on the screen for a long time and restarting did not help.”
The update began rolling out to users starting Monday night, with a phased approach ensuring a smooth transition. While some users may receive the update promptly, KPN expects all users to have the updated software by the end of the week. Those who haven’t received the update automatically can manually initiate it through the device’s settings menu under “Facts” and then “KPN TV+ Launcher.”
Next-Generation KPN Decoder on the Horizon
Adding to the positive news, KPN recently revealed plans for a new set-top box, tentatively called the “KPN Soundbox,” slated for release later this year. This upgraded device boasts built-in Dolby Atmos speakers and other enhancements, positioning KPN to better compete with rival fiber optic and cable providers.
While a precise release date for the KPN soundbox remains unannounced, the company typically conducts extensive testing with a select group of users before a wider launch. This rigorous testing phase ensures a smooth rollout and minimizes potential issues for the broader customer base.
The situation mirrors similar challenges faced by other major providers in the US. Recent software updates for streaming devices and cable boxes have occasionally resulted in similar performance issues, highlighting the complexities of maintaining seamless functionality across a large user base. The KPN situation serves as a reminder of the importance of thorough testing and timely updates in the ever-evolving world of home entertainment technology.
