Riding the wave of Taiwan’s recent World Baseball 12 Championship victory, Taichung, already recognized as the ”World Baseball Capital” by the World Baseball Softball Federation, is further cementing its status wiht a important investment in baseball infrastructure. The city unveiled a brand-new indoor pitching facility at the Chongde Baseball Stadium on December 26th, the largest of its kind in Taichung.
This significant upgrade, a $55 million investment by the city government, is designed to provide year-round, weather-proof training for players. “This indoor pitching and hitting field will be the largest indoor baseball training venue in Taichung,” explained You Zhixiang, Acting Director of the Sports bureau. “In the future, player training will not be affected by the weather, providing stability regardless of rain or shine. This improved practice environment allows players to focus on improving their skills and perform more excitingly.”
The timing of this development couldn’t be better.Taichung has experienced a remarkable year in baseball. The CITIC Brothers Professional Baseball Team secured their 10th championship, and the Taiwanese national team’s World Top 12 Baseball Championship win further ignited the nation’s passion for the sport. Many key players and the head coach of the national team have roots in Taichung’s robust baseball program. Adding to this success, three young Taichung players contributed to a U12 Asian little League Championship victory, and the adult Taichung Taishou Balong team took home their first-ever championship in the Popcorn Baseball game. This new facility underscores Taichung’s commitment to nurturing baseball talent at all levels.
