Thai Tragedy: A child’s Dance and a Community’s Grief
A wave of grief washed over a Thai community following a tragic shooting that claimed the lives of Sittipong Siriphan, 48, and Orachon Iadkham, 45, parents who were celebrating their children’s birthdays. The incident, which occurred at a rice porridge restaurant, stemmed from an argument between Akkaraphon phamjamnong, a 50-year-old former village health volunteer, and a waiter. Phamjamnong, angered over a cleared table, opened fire, resulting in the deaths of the innocent couple. He afterward surrendered to authorities.
Amidst the devastation, a heartbreaking image emerged: a video of the couple’s six-year-old daughter performing the Manohra, a traditional Thai dance, in front of her parents’ coffins. The young girl’s aunt, Thanyawarat Jitmang, shared the video online with the caption: “Nong’s words Little Manohra dance has been shown to mom and dad. She’s practicing dancing so she can dance on New Year’s Day and Children’s Day for mom and dad to see. But Mom and Dad weren’t there to watch me dance. #Shooting at a rice porridge shop.”

The event was attended by Sabida Thaiseth, Thailand’s Deputy Minister of Interior. due to the temple having onyl one crematorium, relatives constructed a temporary cremation base using approximately 400 bricks to accommodate the simultaneous cremation of both parents.
