Top 2000 opening Show: A Decade of Musical Dreams Culminates in Haarlem
The tenth annual Top 2000 Opening Show delivered a night of unforgettable musical moments, culminating in a spectacular performance at the haarlem City Theater. The show, a dazzling blend of 80 pop classics, saw artists achieve lifelong dreams, performing alongside thier idols in innovative and surprising ways. Davina Michelle shared the stage (virtually,of course!) with Adele, while Danny Vera’s heartfelt Elvis presley tribute culminated in a breathtaking virtual duet with the King himself.
The show’s creator, Bart Arens, reflected on the journey: “The dream has become reality. When I presented my first and relatively modest mash-up ten years ago at the opening of the Top 2000, I hoped that it would one day develop into something big. It became a gorgeous journey, where we continued to grow every year to the next step.Fireworks, projections and light effects, a gospel choir, with an orchestra on the roof of Beeld & Geluid, in the middle of a pond and last year I played with four top Dutch drummers in a hangar in front of an immense video wall. And now for the first time with an audience, for an hour, in the Haarlem City Theater: for me this tenth edition is the absolute highlight.”
A New Year’s Eve Tradition Continues
Following the Opening Show, which remains available to stream on NPO Start, desiree van der Heiden performed Queens of the Stone Age’s “2000: I Sat By The Ocean,” a fitting prelude to the conventional New Year’s eve countdown and the unveiling of the number one song.
This year’s Top 2000 Opening Show proved once again that music transcends boundaries, creating unforgettable experiences for both performers and audiences alike. The event’s innovative use of technology and its commitment to pushing creative boundaries cemented its place as a must-see annual event.
