Solar Company sued After Former Employee’s Arrest
Sunrun Installation Services, a subsidiary of the prominent solar energy company Sunrun, is embroiled in a civil rights lawsuit stemming from the arrest of a former employee. The case, filed in connecticut District Court, alleges that Sunrun’s inaction contributed directly too the wrongful arrest and subsequent charges against george Edward Steins.
The lawsuit, filed September 4, 2024, by attorney Robert M. Berke, claims that Steins was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home advancement salesperson. These charges, however, were ultimately dismissed in May 2024.The crux of the complaint lies in Sunrun’s alleged failure to inform the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that Steins’ employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held a Sunrun home improvement contractor license.
The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff’s employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun’s home improvement contractor license, he woudl not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024.
McCarter & English attorneys David X. Sullivan, Thomas J. Finn, and Gregory A. Hall are representing Sunrun Installation Services in this case, which is assigned to U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A.Meyer. The case number is 3:24-cv-01423, Steins v. Sunrun, Inc. et al.
