“The National Board of CONI has approved the statute of the Football Federation”, said Giovanni Malagò, after the federal assembly of last November 4th had voted to amend the FIGC statute. What will the Serie A League do now, divided internally as almost always happens? The appeal party is now in a clear minority. A Lega meeting is scheduled for Friday 22 November in Milan: the clubs could also appeal individually but it seems very complicated after today’s decision by the Coni council. And what will Gravina do? He is running again to lead the FIGC: he has the numbers to be re-elected.
“The works for Milan-Cortina are proceeding at full speed. The president of the IOC, Thomas Bach, will visit the highest Italian institutional levels and will be in our country on 24-25 January and from 3 to 5 February and on the 5th he will be in Milan because there will be the One Year To Go ceremony in Milan – Cortina” Malagò further explained. “Today there is no longer this spasmodic attention on the bobsleigh track – he concluded -. All the works above. I am happy with the Milan-Cortina working group”. An update was then provided on the next winter Coni Trophy which will take place in Abruzzo from 13 to 15 December (opening ceremony in Celano). The Golden Collars ceremony is confirmed for December 16th at 11am at the Sala Sinopoli of the Auditorium Parco della Musica. Matteo Salvini meanwhile proposes that Malagò can remain at Coni until the Milan-Cortina Olympics 2026. The Milleproroghe at the end of the year could decide.
Marani: “Serie C wants to return to being the breeding ground of Italian football”
“Serie C wants to return to being the breeding ground of Italian football. The strategic idea is to invest in youth sectors. Let’s try to lower resistance because the football of tomorrow, if it doesn’t involve young people, won’t be sustainable. For us it is important for a cost issue, lowering the wage bill and training the players at home because we know the economic difficulties faced by Serie C teams. Furthermore, we need to get the elevator moving again. For this reason I would invite some Serie A clubs to look at Serie C because there are strong players who can play without going around the world”: so Matteo Maranipresident of the Lega Serie C, at the Social Football Summit. Then speaking about the Zola reform, which aims to develop youth talent, Marani underlines how this “starts from a technical aspect. We must go back to making a model starting from the championship that is best suited to reversing this trend”, while on the situation of Italian football, the Serie C number one underlines how “for too many years Italian football has no longer talked about football, we must put the technical project back at the centre”.
Hungary is also bidding for the 2036 Olympics
Zsolt Gyulay, president of the Hungarian Olympic Committee (MOB), says Hungary is “the best prepared” to host the Games should they return to Europe. It also highlights the importance of adapting to new sports, investing in infrastructure beyond sports facilities and achieving “commitment and consensus”. In an interview with National Sports Radio, Gyulay highlighted major changes in the Olympic selection process, competition for hosting rights and Hungary’s readiness to host major events. With Los Angeles hosting the Games in 2028 and Brisbane (Australia) in 2032, the 2036 Games will face stiff competition, particularly from countries such as India, Egypt and Saudi Arabia. “The IOC wants to explore two areas to host the Games, India and Africa,” Gyulay said, adding that India is already in dialogue and is very interested. However, he believes India will not be ready before 2036 or 2040. Egypt is promising, but the Hungarian leader doubts it will be ready by 2036.
Bobsleigh track in Cortina, 180 workers at work and special nets to protect from snowfall
The usual update was held in Cortina on the progress of the works on the bobsleigh, skeleton and luge track in view of the 2026 Games. The government commissioner and CEO of Simico, Fabio Saldini, and the representatives and technicians of the IOC were present. During the visit, the current state of the activities was taken stock: the upper part of the route is nearing completion. Testing of the various systems relating to the track then continues, with specific attention to the refrigeration system. “The work has accelerated and this shows that the excellent team work is bringing the expected results. Compliance with the deadlines in view of the pre-approval in March is confirmed” declared Fabio Saldini.
The works of the Pizzarotti company of Parma will continue on the route throughout the winter with special nets that protect the surface from snowfall. There are 180 workers employed on the Cortina construction site while others were employed in Treviso, Bergamo and Valsugana where the refrigeration system was being assembled. And the refrigeration system will be used in reverse, i.e. as a heating mechanism: the cold water will be changed into hot water to create a mild climate and guarantee good conditions for the workers working on the construction site. Meanwhile, another 130 million should arrive from the budget law for the Games. It was expected. The Olympics are expensive.
