Seven years removed from full-time NASCAR competition, dale Earnhardt jr. still holds significant sway in the world of motorsports merchandise. His throwback Budweiser paint scheme, a design not seen on a track for 17 years, has claimed the top spot in Lionel Collectibles’ 2024 diecast sales rankings.
The scheme, raced last month at Florence Motor Speedway in the South Carolina 400, pays homage to Earnhardt’s nearly decade-long partnership with Budweiser at dale Earnhardt Inc. According to Lionel Collectibles, “this was the top selling diecast of the season.”
Rounding out the top ten, Joey Logano’s championship-winning No. 22 car from Phoenix Raceway in november secured the tenth position. The list, released annually by NASCAR’s official diecast manufacturer, reflects the popularity of drivers and their iconic paint schemes.
Popular drivers Chase Elliott and Kyle Larson each had two cars in the top ten. Elliott’s second-place finish features his Hooters car, driven to victory at Texas Motor Speedway – perhaps the last time the sponsor will grace a Cup car following its bankruptcy filing. His standard Hooters scheme also made the list at number nine.
This marks the second consecutive year Earnhardt has cracked the top ten with a Late Model Stock design. Though, this year’s success is especially noteworthy, as it stems from a custom-made mold designed for short-track drivers – a mold Earnhardt single-handedly made profitable with this specific design.
