Dublin Gang’s Attempted Murder Foiled: Glock Pistol seized in Major Police Operation
Irish authorities have disrupted a planned gangland murder, arresting two suspects adn seizing a loaded Glock semi-automatic pistol in a major operation targeting a powerful Dublin-based criminal association. The operation, which involved multiple Garda units, highlights the ongoing fight against organized crime in ireland.
The suspects, men in their 30s and 40s, are allegedly linked to “The Family,” a Dublin-based gang that has reportedly overtaken the Kinahan cartel as the primary supplier of drugs in the country. The attempted murder targeted an associate of Cormac Berkeley,a well-known drug dealer who was fatally shot in Clondalkin two years ago. Berkeley had received multiple warnings about threats to his life.
The dramatic intervention unfolded on Rowlagh Avenue in Clondalkin shortly after 8 p.m. on Tuesday. A tactical team from the Emergency Response Unit intercepted a vehicle, discovering the Glock pistol, 9mm ammunition, and masks inside. the two men were apprehended at the scene.
The operation extended beyond the initial arrests,encompassing searches of 18 addresses in Dublin and even prison cells. Assistant Commissioner Angela Willis, head of An Garda Síochána’s organized and serious crime unit, praised the officers involved, stating, “An Garda Síochána believes the firearm was intended for use in the commission of murder.I wish to acknowledge the members of An Garda Síochána involved in the operation for their professionalism in bringing this operation to a triumphant conclusion.”
Among the locations searched was the prison cell of Charles McClean, a 35-year-old serving multiple sentences for facilitating gun murders, including the killing of notorious drug dealer Mark “Guinea Pig” Desmond. McClean also received consecutive sentences totaling 16½ years for facilitating a criminal organization and conspiring to murder gangland criminal Wayne Whelan, who was killed after surviving a previous assassination attempt.
The seizure of the Glock pistol and the arrests underscore the ongoing efforts by Irish law enforcement to combat the escalating threat of organized crime. The operation’s success, notably the disruption of a planned murder, sends a strong message about the determination of authorities to dismantle these criminal networks and protect the public.
