NBA Star Bennedict Mathurin Returns too Roots,Inspires with holiday Generosity
Indiana Pacers guard Bennedict Mathurin,a rising star in the NBA,recently brought holiday cheer to his hometown of Montreal,Quebec, delivering 700 toys to children at his former elementary school,Adélard-Desrosiers. With the help of his sister, Jennifer, Mathurin orchestrated a heartwarming gesture that resonated deeply within the community.
“I remember when I was a student at Adélard-Desrosiers that people did what they could so that we could have a good holiday season,” Mathurin recalled. “So I just try to give back. It’s a good thing for me,but it’s a good thing for young people too. To be able to have something that they will remember.”
On-Court Success Mirrors Off-Court Generosity
Mathurin’s generosity extends beyond the holiday season. His third NBA season is proving to be his best yet, averaging over 17 points per game—a remarkable feat considering his recovery from right shoulder surgery. “It was something for me to come back and be better than before,” he shared. “It was a arduous time for me.Not being able to play, seeing my teammates having a lot of fun and going far in the conference finals. It wasn’t about me coming back and being a better player.”
Beyond his offensive prowess, Mathurin has also focused on improving his defensive game. “I think my defense has improved a lot. This is something I needed to improve on,” he stated. This dedication is evident in his improved rebounding average, exceeding six per game this season. “It comes with natural progression,” he explained. “It depends on who I cover on defense. If I keep point guard, I’ll probably have fewer rebounds because I’m higher. If I cover the wingers, it will be easier for me to get rebounds.”
The Pacers currently hold an 8th-place standing in the Eastern Conference, with 12 wins and 15 losses. However, Mathurin remains optimistic about the team’s progress, believing they are finding their rhythm.Last year, the Pacers reached the Eastern Conference Finals during the NBA playoffs.
Mathurin’s story serves as an inspiration, highlighting the importance of community engagement and the dedication required to excel both on and off the court. His journey from Montreal to the NBA, coupled with his commitment to giving back, makes him a role model for aspiring athletes and community leaders alike.
