The event culminated in the proclamation of Hristo Ivanov as the Municipality of Sozopol’s Sportsman of the Year, an accolade presented by Mayor Tikhomir Yanakiev.
Mayor Yanakiev extended his congratulations to all athletes, coaches, parents, and young sports enthusiasts, acknowledging their contributions to Sozopol’s sporting legacy and its global recognition. Ivanov’s year began with a strong showing at the Barcelona Marathon on March 10th. Just three weeks later, he tackled a challenging mountain race near Markovo, followed immediately by the Stara Zagora Half Marathon. This relentless pace is a testament to his dedication and training regimen.
But the intensity doesn’t stop there.His upcoming races are even more grueling. “The season continues with the Tarnovo ultra – 50 kilometers,” Ivanov explains, “and then with a 6-hour run at the stadium in Ruse, which is nearly 150 laps, totaling 70 kilometers.” The challenges continue with the Kodzha kaya race (43 km), the Varna Half Marathon, and culminating with the Kalandja Marathon.

He’s also achieved success in duathlons and completed marathons in rome and Istanbul in 2023. His ultimate goal? Completing the 100km Tryavna Ultra.

He also plans to compete in the Burgas run, the Pirin ultra (38 km), the K3 in Zlatograd (85 km), the Bucharest Marathon (42 km), the Emine ultra (30 km), a half marathon in Burgas, and the Valencia marathon (42 km). He’ll cap off his year with a half-marathon in nessebar on December 21.
