Spanish Firm Indra Bolsters Thai Air defense with advanced Radar System
Spanish defense technology company Indra has secured a notable contract too supply its advanced Lanza long-range radar system to the Royal Thai Air force. The deal, announced December 11,2024,marks a key expansion of Indra’s presence in the competitive Asian defense market and underscores its commitment to providing state-of-the-art aerial surveillance solutions.
This latest contract builds upon a previous agreement from September 2018, where Thailand acquired a Lanza LRR 3D radar, along with the AirDef air defense command and control system and comprehensive logistical support, including personnel training and spare parts. This earlier collaboration laid the groundwork for the current expansion.
The new radar significantly enhances Thailand’s air defense capabilities, providing advanced detection of fifth-generation aircraft, ballistic missiles, and drones, even in challenging weather conditions. The system’s cutting-edge algorithms are designed to minimize interference from sources like wind turbines and solar farms, ensuring its adaptability to evolving technological landscapes.
Indra, with over three decades of experience in the Asian market, continues to solidify its position as a leading provider of advanced defense technology. The company maintains a strong regional presence with offices in key locations including China, India, the Philippines, and thailand (since 2017).
Francisco Jiménez, Indra’s Integrated Defense Systems Business Growth Director, expressed his satisfaction, stating, “This new contract underlines Indra’s strategic relevance in the field of air defense in Asia, a key market for strengthening air surveillance and control capabilities.”
The deal highlights the growing demand for sophisticated air defense systems in the Asia-Pacific region, a trend mirrored by similar investments in advanced military technology by nations worldwide. This underscores the importance of robust air surveillance and control capabilities in maintaining national security in an increasingly complex global environment.
