Fifty-four Syrian soldiers who fled a rebel attack were executed by Islamic State (IS) jihadists in the country’s central desert, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said today.

The 54 soldiers were caught in the desert of Homs province by IS jihadists while “trying to flee (…) while the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime was underway,” the Observatory said, adding that the jihadists then executed them.

Weapons from the army

The target of an operation by the Turkish intelligence service MIT became ammunition and armaments that the Kurdish YPG militia took from the Syrian army in the city of Qamishli in northeastern Syria, very close to the Turkish border, as reported by the Turkish media.

According to Turkish reports, these are twelve trucks with missiles and heavy weapons, two tanks and two ammunition depots.

The same reports call false the information given by Kurdish sources that an Israeli air strike targeting the airport took place in Qamishli.

Reuters reported last night that Israeli warplanes bombed at least three major Syrian army air bases that housed dozens of helicopters and fighter jets, including the Qamishli air base in northeastern Syria.
