The University of Miami’s Center for Health Management and Policy is hosting its 14th annual conference on January 24th, just days after the inauguration of the new administration. This timely event, held at the Miami Herbert Business School, promises a first look at the potential changes on the horizon for the U.S. healthcare industry.
“All the major players in the industry will be there,” said Steven Ullmann, professor and director of the center for Health Management and Policy. “The timing of the conference,while coincidental,is perfect for gaining clarity on the expectations and implications of the upcoming changes.”
With new leadership appointed to key positions at the U.S. Department of Health and human Services, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Centers for Disease control and Prevention, and the Food and Drug Administration, among others, the direction of government healthcare agencies is poised for meaningful shifts. Several of these appointees are expected to chart new courses for the organizations they lead.
“Given the new leadership in government healthcare, coupled with changes in Congress, all branches of government are possibly going to be impacted,” Ullmann explained. “It’s crucial that we explore and gain insights into how these changes will affect major segments of the healthcare industry. Everyone is watching to see how their sector will be impacted by the proposed and potential changes.”
The conference kicks off with a keynote panel discussion titled “the Election Impact on U.S. Health Care,” followed by a session on “The Election Impact on U.S. Health Care: Navigating in 2025 and Beyond.” A lightning round Q&A, moderated by Ullmann and Karoline Mortensen, professor, associate dean, and associate director of the center, will conclude the half-day event.
In-person sessions will be held at the Donna E. Shalala Student Center. The conference, titled “The Business of Health Care Conference,” will also be livestreamed.
