Tragedy struck a private hospital in Meerut,India,when a newly delivered mother lost her life in a horrifying elevator accident. The incident, wich occurred around 6 p.m. local time on August 5th, has sent shockwaves thru the community and sparked outrage among the victim’s family.
Karishma, a 33-year-old woman, had just given birth to a baby girl and was being transported back to the general ward from the operating room. She was accompanied by medical staff and other patients in the elevator when the unthinkable happened. “The seat belt suddenly broke while the elevator was running, causing the elevator to plummet,” a report by Indian media outlet “Republic TV” stated.
The sudden fall resulted in severe neck injuries for karishma, while the other three individuals in the elevator sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Despite frantic efforts by relatives and friends who rushed to the scene, the elevator door remained jammed. Eventually, all four were rescued and transported to other hospitals for treatment.
Tragically, Karishma succumbed to her injuries. Her family, overcome with grief and anger, descended upon the hospital, accusing the management of negligence. “They were shouting slogans against the hospital’s management,” the report noted. The medical staff, fearing for their safety, fled the scene. Police arrived to restore order and control the chaotic situation.
In the aftermath of the accident, the hospital, which had admitted approximately 15 patients that day, was forced to transfer all of them to other facilities. Authorities have temporarily sealed off the hospital pending a thorough investigation. “A preliminary investigation showed that the elevator may have malfunctioned,” the report stated.
