In a shocking case of infidelity, a Taiwanese engineer is suing his wife and her colleague for over $300,000 after discovering a years-long affair that resulted in a child.
The engineer, identified only as Xiao Cheng, entrusted his wife, Xiao Jing, to a male colleague, Lao Chen, to help care for their children while he worked in Hsinchu. Xiao Cheng believed Lao Chen, who was old enough to be his father-in-law, was simply helping out with childcare.
However, Xiao Cheng’s world was shattered when his wife confessed to having feelings for Lao Chen. He was further devastated to learn that the pair had been involved in a relationship for four years, engaging in sexual activity over 224 times and even having a son together, whom Xiao Cheng was raising as his own.
“Without grandpa (Lao Chen), my world would be destroyed,” Xiao Jing wrote in messages to Lao Chen, further revealing the depth of her feelings. “Grandpa is more important than you all. I will be very happy just to see grandpa, and I will be happy if grandpa disappears.”
Xiao Jing attempted to defend her actions, claiming she suffered from Stockholm Syndrome due to Lao Chen’s alleged assault. she also argued that Xiao Cheng had forgiven her for the infidelity. Lao Chen, simultaneously occurring, denied infringing on Xiao Cheng’s spousal rights, asserting that sexual autonomy superseded such rights.
The court, though, dismissed Xiao Jing’s claims of Stockholm Syndrome due to a lack of medical evidence. they also found her messages to Lao Chen to be clear evidence of a consensual relationship.
Ultimately, the judge ruled that both Xiao Jing and Lao Chen were responsible for the destruction of Xiao Cheng’s marriage and ordered them to jointly pay him NT$1 million (approximately $330,000) in compensation.
