Four Soldiers Killed in Bajo Cauca Helicopter Crash

Four Colombian ‍soldiers tragically lost their lives on Thursday, December 5th, in the municipality of Cáreces, Bajo Cauca, during ‌what the Army has described as an ‌accident. Initial reports suggested the soldiers had been ambushed while descending into a⁢ conflict zone, but the Seventh Division later clarified that the deaths occurred during a rope descent from a helicopter.

The deceased soldiers include Captain Rafael Moncada Gómez, Second Sergeant⁣ Daniel Macías,⁤ and⁢ professional⁢ soldiers John galíndez and Ipia Barrera. Two other soldiers sustained injuries and are receiving urgent medical attention at a local hospital.

“Apparently the troops ⁢bomb a‌ large camp of ‌a criminal ‌group, I think it is from the Gulf Clan, and in⁤ the consolidation of the area, when the commandos are about to reach the area, they are attacked and ⁢their death occurs,” stated General (r) Luis‍ eduardo Martínez, Secretary of Security of Antioquia, in initial reports.

However, the Seventh Division issued a ⁢revised statement two hours later, explaining that the incident occurred during an‌ operation led by the Deployment Force against Drug Trafficking and Transnational Threats, an elite Army unit. The troops were descending ⁣from the helicopter when they ⁤fell to the ground, ‍likely due to the challenging terrain with dense trees. Three ⁣soldiers died instantly, and another succumbed to their⁣ injuries later.

The Army has⁣ launched an‍ investigation to determine the precise circumstances surrounding the incident. Given the conflicting⁣ initial reports, further clarification is‌ expected ⁢from⁣ the armed‍ forces and the Ministry ‍of Defense.

Who were ⁢the soldiers who died ‌when they got off the helicopter in ‍Bajo Cauca?

The deceased soldiers include Captain Rafael Moncada ⁤Gómez, Second Sergeant daniel Macías,‍ and professional soldiers ‌John Galíndez and⁣ Ipia Barrera. Two other soldiers were reportedly ⁢injured and⁤ are⁢ currently being treated urgently at a hospital in the⁤ area.
