Milan Hosts Sneak Peek of Top Car of the Year Contenders
Milan, Italy: Car enthusiasts get ready, because a fleet of cutting-edge automobiles are ready to take over Milan’s Piazza Burri. From December 6th to 15th, the CityLife Shopping District will transform into a showcase for the seven finalists vying for the prestigious Car of the Year award.
This year’s impressive line-up includes the Alfa Romeo Junior, Citroën ë-C3/C3, Cupra Terramar, Dacia Duster, Hyundai Inster, Kia EV3, and Renault R5 E-Tech Electric/Alpine A290. These vehicles were chosen from a pool of over twenty impressive new models by a panel of 60 jurors representing 23 European countries.
“Since 1964, the Car of the Year award has recognized the most innovative car of the year," noted organizers.
But you don’t have to wait until the official announcement at the Brussels Motor Show on January 10th to experience these automotive marvels. Thanks to Auto magazine, anyone can test drive the contenders right in the heart of Milan.
"The editorial team will be present in Piazza Burri throughout the ten-day event, ready to answer any questions about the cars and the transition to electric mobility," organizers shared.
The list of finalists reflects the growing diversity of the automotive landscape.
While some models, like the Alfa Romeo Junior and Citroën C3, offer flexibility with multi-energy platforms, catering to both electric and gasoline preferences, others, like the Hyundai Inster, Kia EV3, Renault 5, and Alpine A290, are fully electric.
The Cupra Terramar and Dacia Duster present a range of options, from petrol and mild hybrid to plug-in hybrid and LPG.
"The Cupra Terramar, with its plug-in hybrid engine, boasts a powerful 272 hp, making it the top performer amongst the hybrids," Auto magazine highlighted.
The Alfa Romeo Junior BEV version in the Veloce trim stands out with its impressive 280 horsepower and a 0 to 100 km/h sprint in less than 6 seconds, making it the most powerful car in the selection. The Alpine A290, an evolution of the Renault R5, adds a touch of sporty aggression to the electric scene with higher output versions delivering 180 hp and 220 hp.
To experience these automotive contenders firsthand, visit Piazza Burri in Milan’s CityLife Shopping District from December 6th to 15th. Register for test drives on the Auto magazine website, www.auto.it/testdrive, or simply stop by the event.
