Will Santa Deliver the Goods in Snowy Dunaújváros? Southern Hungary Waits for Wintry Weather
The Hungarian city of Dunaújváros experienced a fleeting taste of winter on November 22nd, waking up to a beautiful blanket of snow. Unfortunately, this early snowfall melted quickly, leaving behind only memories of sledding and a sigh of relief for drivers who dodged potential road hazards. Since then, the city has been shrouded in a grey blanket of fog and rain, leading many to wonder if Santa Claus will be able to find his way through the gloom on Christmas Eve.
"Snow may be in the forecast for the Alps this coming Sunday," local weather expert Tibor Pétervári told our sister publication, veol.hu. "And there’s even a chance that the Kőszeg Mountains in Hungary could be dusted with white." skiers in Austria can also expect good news – "lots of snow is expected in the northern-facing areas."
But will Dunaújváros share in the winter wonderland? It seems unlikely. The forecast from both the Hungarian Meteorological Service and forecasts from Cape show a mixed bag of clouds, light rain, and potentially even a touch of snow in the days leading up to Christmas.
“It is not worth looking at the models more than two weeks away,” Pétervári advises, "but next week we will find out if there will be a white Christmas this year."
As December rolls on, the anticipation grows. Will Dunaújváros be bathed in the magical glow of snow on Christmas morning, or will Santa need to rely on his GPS to navigate the city beneath a veil of rainclouds?
Only time will tell.
