Tourist’s Tragic Death Highlights Dangers of Koh Samui Cliffside
Tragedy struck a popular overlook on Koh Samui, Thailand, leaving a young Russian tourist dead after being swept away by a massive wave. Kamilla Belyatskaya, 24, was last seen sitting on a yoga mat at the scenic Lad Koh lookout point on Friday, when a powerful wave crashed against the cliffs, engulfing the young woman.
"She was last seen by witnesses Friday as she sat on a yoga mat at the coastal beauty spot, before she was engulfed by the wave and dragged out to sea," local police told CNN.
Horrifying footage circulating on social media, shared by local news outlets, captured Belyatskaya’s desperate struggle against the relentless currents. Witnesses reported seeing her in the turbulent water for about 15 minutes before she vanished from sight. A courageous male tourist jumped into the raging sea in an attempt to rescue Belyatskaya, but tragically, his efforts were in vain.
"A foreign male tourist who jumped into the water after Belyatskaya was unable to save her," police added.
The following day, Belyatskaya’s body was recovered on a nearby beach, roughly half a mile from the lookout point where the incident occurred.
While CCTV footage shows Belyatskaya arriving at the viewpoint with a pink yoga mat pulled from the trunk of a car, authorities continue to investigate the exact circumstances surrounding the events leading to her sudden and tragic demise.
