Indie Film Festival Dances With Films Brings Buzzworthy Lineup To New York City
New York City’s independent film scene is about to get a serious injection of creative energy. Dances With Films (DWF), a bicoastal festival known for championing emerging filmmakers, is set to hit the Big Apple December 5-8 with an impressive lineup of almost 150 feature-length narratives, documentaries, pilots, and shorts.
This edition of DWF NYC boasts world, North American, and US premieres, solidifying its focus on showcasing fresh cinematic voices. The festival kicks off with the world premiere of Evan Oppenheimer’s Peas and Carrots, a quirky coming-of-age tale about a teenage girl navigating the legacy of her parents, one-hit wonders from the 90s. The film features New York City musicians, including members of iconic bands like the Ramones and Sonic Youth, adding an authentic local touch.
Closing night will feature Christina Eliopoulos’ heartwarming comedy-drama, Here’s Yianni!, starring Joe Cortese and Julia Ormond as a longtime couple running a beachside diner. When Yianni, grappling with dementia, believes he’s hosting a late-night talk show, his loving wife must navigate his delusions while protecting him from the outside world.
But Peas and Carrots and Here’s Yianni! are just the beginning.
"We take the responsibility of discovering these films and filmmakers thus providing an opportunity for them to get distribution and representation furthering their careers," said DWF Founders and Directors Leslee Scallon and Michael Trent.
The festival lineup offers a diverse range of cinematic experiences, with each film representing a unique perspective:
-
World Premiere Features: Liam Le Guillou’s A Cursed Man explores the dark world of witchcraft and the occult, while Victoria Kupchinetsky’s Calico Rebellion reveals a Catskill Mountains family’s past fight for land rights, influencing the anti-slavery movement.
-
